This vest takes advantage of Noro yarns’ variegations.  Because it is knit from side to side in garter stitch panels, the stripes are vertical and there was no need to do a separate gauge swatch.

About Knit Color

I am a knitter.  This obsession has led me to become a dyer, designer, pattern-writer and teacher.

Please tour this site to see some of the sweaters I have made for myself, information about dye workshops and knitting classes, and some of the patterns I have available.

Like so many others, I’ve been knitting since my mother taught me in elementary school.  She’s a great knitter, and her sense of color is remarkable.  She recently unearthed a report I wrote on Natural Dyes.  (High school?? Junior high?  Either way, it was a long time ago.)

Those who know me know that swatching is a big part of my knitting work, so I’ve included a “swatch page” — I argue that since we like to knit, we shouldn’t mind knitting a swatch and what better way to learn about a particular yarn, color combination, fabric, texture.  Some of the garments I’ve made have begun with the concept that I don’t want a separate swatch, but that I will work the swatch into the piece (see the Noro vest on this page).
